How PeanutNotes handles your family’s information

Last updated 5 September 2026

Who we are

PeanutNotes is a school-notes and learning-habit application for students in grades 1–12 and their families. Questions about this page go to [email protected].

What we store

  • Account. Sign-in is handled by Auth0. We keep the identifier Auth0 gives us, plus the email address and name it passes along, so one login maps to one family account.
  • Family and learner profiles. An optional family name, and for each learner a first name, grade and the subjects on their timetable.
  • Learning activity. Notes (date, subject and text), generated quizzes and study sheets, quiz answers and scores, skills, goals and weekly check-ins, and the points and badges derived from them.
  • Technical records. Server logs needed to run and secure the service.

How we use it

To run PeanutNotes for your family: showing each learner their own notes and progress, and letting grown-ups review results from their own grown-up sign-in. We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for advertising.

Generated material. When a learner asks for a quiz or a study sheet, the text of their notes for that day or week and their grade are sent to our AI provider to generate it. Names are not required for generation, but note text is sent as written, so keep personal details out of notes. Generated material can be wrong; families should check it when something seems off.

Sharing: the garden link

Nothing is public unless a garden is turned on. A shared garden is a link, and anyone who has the link can open it. It shows the garden name, the Peanut’s stage, level, streak and badges, skills in progress or achieved, goals marked as shared, and published lessons (the study-sheet title, up to three key facts, and the quiz). It never includes raw notes, the learner’s grade, or quiz scores. Turning sharing off makes the link stop working, but it cannot recall copies someone may already have made.

Cookies

We set a sign-in session cookie (through Auth0) and a cookie remembering which learner is selected on this device. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Providers

  • Auth0 for sign-in, including Google sign-in where it is offered.
  • Microsoft Azure for hosting and the database, in the Canada Central region.
  • OpenAI for generating quizzes and study sheets from note text and grade.

Children

PeanutNotes is meant to be used by children with a grown-up’s knowledge. A family account is created by whoever signs up, and learner profiles hold only a first name, grade and subjects. Grown-ups on the account can review everything a learner has written and remove it.

Keeping and deleting information

Information stays for as long as the family account exists. To delete a learner profile or the whole family account, email [email protected] from the sign-in address and we will remove it.
